Sited along Route 1 and near the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, the new Saugus Middle High School supports forward-thinking education and celebrates the town’s rich history of innovation. Drawing inspiration from the town’s history and landmarks, the facility brings together 1,360 middle and high school students in a STEAM-driven complex of fabrication labs, collaboration spaces, and project areas. Grade-level classroom pods allow for smaller cohorts and facilitate exploratory learning with science and technology labs, art and drama classrooms, and engineering labs. Each pod is flooded by natural light through monumental lightwells and has a clear identity, reinforced by dynamic supergraphics honoring Saugus’ pioneering industries in ice, iron, and lobstering.
The school is designed to serve students and the community for years to come. A tri-generation plant will reduce carbon emissions by 49 tons a year and act as backup power.
Water conservation measures are expected to save more than 1.5 million gallons of water annually, and healthy materials, natural light, and outdoor learning environments contribute to student well-being.
