Sanders Memorial Elementary was designed and developed as a STEAM magnet school. The facility provides an integrally organized learning environment infused with both traditional and 21st-century design principles. The classroom centers are enhanced with AV technology and multiple learning places to engage students in discovery, self-awareness, and problem solving while promoting group collaboration.
Students gain a comprehensive understanding in various subjects and master the skills of writing, reading, speaking, listening, viewing and presenting. They also are taught STEAM literacy skills of design, inquiry, innovation and teamwork. Parents are active partners in their children’s learning process.
Bringing the outdoor environment into the learning process was a high priority, but the site of the existing school was restrictive and challenging. New buildings adjacent to existing renovated structures created an internal courtyard, which serves as the outdoor classroom and has become the heart of the school. It allows for safe and secure outdoor activities and schoolwide events.
