Saline High School
Saline, Michigan
Situated on the crest of a hill overlooking a wetland preserve, Saline High School will integrate curriculum opportunities, create smaller learning environments and have a more intimate house-like feeling.
The academic wing is a three-story, U-shaped structure that contains two academic houses on each level. Each house features nine standard classrooms, restrooms, student breakout rooms, teacher planning rooms, special-education facilities and storage areas. Science labs and art rooms serve as bridges to connect the houses.
The house concept allows students to be grouped by grade level or career path. Ideally, a student will have his or her core classes in the same house.
The new high school also features the Ellen Ewing Center for the Performing Arts. It features an 1,100-seat auditorium with full-fly tower, green room, scene shop and dressing rooms. An additional element of the performing-arts area is practice rooms for students participating in orchestra, band and vocal programs. A three-story lobby marks the east entrance.
The two-story athletic wing has six major components: an eight-lane stretch pool, 2,200-seat gymnasium, an auxiliary gymnasium, gymnastics room, two weight-training areas and wrestling room.
