Saint Louis University’s (SLU) vision for 21st-century learning challenged the conventional classroom and inspired the design of an innovative learning studio. With the help of the design team, SLU developed a prototype learning studio that enables it to test out new teaching tools and methods on a small scale before making campuswide design decisions.

The design team worked cooperatively to create an environment that would support new teaching methodologies and deliver a more engaging, collaborative and flexible learning experience for contemporary teachers and students.

The learning studio features a range of mobile chairs, tables and easels that can be reconfigured on the fly, as well as high-tech elements, such as a multi-screen video wall.

The reconfigurable nature of the space complements flexible teaching and learning styles. Classes can connect with students and experts around the world; instructors are untethered from the front of the room; and students have access to various power ports and multimedia resources, without being anchored down by technology or constrained by the walls of the classroom.
