As the sister school to H.O. Brittingham, Rehoboth Elementary is the third replication of the Love Creek floor plan. Tetra Tech was tasked with creating a unique and adaptable landscape for learning within the traditional and stagnant environment of a school. Every space needed to be able to perform more than one programmatic function to maximize the floor plan and stay within a constrained budget. Thus, wings, classrooms, furniture, and even corridors had to become flexible learning spaces for the students and faculty.
To establish an effective and holistic environment, the building incorporates a finish and graphics package that reflects the natural characteristics of the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, situated just down the street from the school. Both the community and school board felt strongly that the school should feel timeless, yet rooted in its community. This request was fulfilled through a neutral finish palette that uses a system of layering and gradating vibrant colors and textures associated with “summer at the beach,” along with striking wall graphics unique to the school. By paying close attention to detail, the design creates an exciting environment where young individuals can grow and learn.
