With the completion of the White Lodging Center for Hospitality and Tourism Management, Purdue University Calumet has positioned itself as an academic leader in the hospitality and tourism industry. The 13,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility includes a full-service teaching kitchen; a beverage service lab; a working restaurant; a computer lab; breakout classrooms; tiered classrooms/lecture halls; and faculty and administrative offices.

In the beverage service lab, course instruction focuses on generating product knowledge about wines, spirits and coffees. The working restaurant features the finest amenities and decor. It is open to the public, giving students the opportunity to practice what they’ve learned by serving patrons from the Northwest Indiana area.

One of the unique design elements within the restaurant is an entire wall composed of six art deco bronze doors that formerly adorned the Hammond City Hall main entrance. Modeled by the renowned Italian-American sculptor, Alfonso Iannelli, these works of art lend an air of elegance and sophistication found in the finest high-end restaurants.
