Purdue University Calumet’s Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) combines advanced simulation techniques with 3-D visualization and high-performance computing to solve challenging real-world problems.

This multi-disciplinary research center is on the first floor of the Powers Computer Education Building. The building’s brick and limestone exterior blends in with surrounding facilities, while subtly announcing its own unique presence. An all-glass entryway welcomes visitors and provides an immediate, tantalizing glimpse of the cutting-edge technologies that lie within.

The interior features a bright color palette, and uses glass and metal to define and accentuate simulation and visualization laboratories; an immersive theater for advanced research projects and 3-D virtual classroom instruction; faculty offices; and conference rooms.

Inside the tiered classroom, users immerse themselves in a 3-D virtual-reality environment created with the use of advanced projection technologies. Previous CIVS projects have addressed challenges from such disciplines as biomedical, construction, engineering, education/training, economic development, energy, environment, health care, marketing, manufacturing, service and transportation.
