The new Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) College of Nursing, in the heart of Texas Medical Center, establishes a strong, progressive identity befitting its history. Behind distinctive green glass and precast exterior, the facility combines classrooms, skills labs and administrative offices that support the college’s mission of providing high-quality nursing education in a 12-story building.
The architect integrated elements of modern clinical spaces into the skills lab design—replicating a realistic patient care environment that blends learning with the simulation of real-life applications. The design uses the latest technological advances and infrastructure to allow for future modifications and equipment updates. Classrooms can adapt to various teaching styles.
Tenants in the college include the Minority Health Research Center, Learning Resource Center, Adult Nursing and Family Nursing Departments, Department of Mental Health and Community Health Nursing, Department of Distance Education and nursing school faculty.
An eight-floor parking garage, shared by the facility’s neighbor Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, not only separates the ground floor from administrative and classroom areas, but also is home to the building’s central plant.
