Pinedale Elementary School

Based on performance specifications provided by the Wyoming School Facilities Commission and Sublette County School District No. 1, Pinedale Elementary School was designed around a small learning community philosophy to LEED silver standards. The goal was to deliver an educational environment that is energy-efficient and promotes a healthful atmosphere.
The school design was derived from the ranching heritage of the area, and incorporates native materials and color throughout the building. To further enhance the ranching heritage, heavy timber was used for the front entry and entrances into learning communities. Local ranchers branded the entries with their unique brands.
The small learning communities represent the three ecosystems of the area to inspire an understanding and respect for the environment. All classrooms are situated on exterior walls to utilize daylight, and common areas within each community are used for student collaboration.
At 7,175 feet, Pinedale, Wyo., is a harsh climate with sub-zero temperatures and only 30 frost-free days a year. The school was placed on the site to minimize the effects of high winds and drifting snow, protecting the playground area for students.
