The project renovated the 14,870-square-foot dining hall and expanded the kitchen to include a new walk-in cooler and freezer. The facility serves about 2,000 students daily and also caters the school’s special events.
The design produced a bright and inviting dining space that is easy to maintain. Light pendants, wall sconces and specialized light fixtures enhance the mood and provide an accurate color rendering for food presentation. Special attention was paid to the food-service line to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize serving time. Noise control was addressed with a specialized ceiling-tile system with a high sound-absorbency rate. Because the dining hall serves as a primary gathering place on campus, it was equipped with a flatscreen monitor to inform students and faculty of upcoming events and special announcements.
New air-conditioning and waste-management systems were applied that are more energy-efficient and drastically reduce the refuge and waste produced daily.
