Patrick Henry College, Barbara Hodel Center
Purcellville, Virginia
This project occupies a highly prominent location on one end of the main mall layout of this beautiful, rural campus, in Purcellville, Va. It is a focal point for the entire site, and it satisfies a very large need the school has for student activities. It is designed in a traditional Georgian style to complement the campuswide architecture.
The building encompasses three floors. It caters to student athletics, academics and dining, and serves as a visitor center.
It has a first-class collegiate basketball gymnasium, racquetball courts, fitness center, dance studio, indoor running track and full locker facilities.
Best-in-class food service also is a major function of the facility, with 4,000 square feet of dining space, outdoor patio dining and a large, comprehensive kitchen.
The soaring lobby space is designed with an elegance to complement the traditional exterior architecture. Additionally, the school’s bookstore and cafe straddle each side of the main lobby and promote student interaction within this area of the building.
