The new Trailside Elementary School is the result of collaboration between the architect and a committee that included administrators, teachers, building and maintenance personnel, parents and students.
The design/building committee was challenged to create an educational environment that uses technology to enhance the learning experience. This was accomplished through four unique classroom clusters with activity area and circulation spaces in the center, surrounded by classrooms and teacher- preparation areas.
The classroom layout creates four different areas that divide the school into smaller, more intimate, educational environments. The new Trailside Elementary School contains special education and other programs. Also included are music, art, science and discretionary spaces that allow increased flexibility in the curriculum. The specialized learning spaces, integrated with the classroom houses, provides a facility that serves the needs of the Park City School District, meets all state criteria, and is a needed plan for the future.
Experiencing the building’s various exterior shapes, colors and textures helps students learn about science, physics, math and colors. The ability to access technology in virtually every room encourages learning by discovery. Every space incorporates natural daylight.
