Oxford College of Emory University, Student Center
Oxford, Georgia
Oxford College of Emory University has transformed its former dining hall into a vibrant home for campus life. The new Oxford Student Center (OSC) is a focal point for visitors and serves as the heart of the campus for students.
In addition to renovating the former dining hall, built in 1967, the university has built a two-level addition on the east side of the facility. Site improvements integrate the project with the existing pathways and plazas on campus.
The OSC supports excellence and leadership in academics, research, and technology through collaborative student spaces, multipurpose forum, cafe, bookstore, social lounges, and offices.
The project champions sustainability and environmental stewardship. The challenge was to optimize building energy performance through building systems and design strategies.
The OSC is estimated to achieve a reduction of nearly 30% in energy consumption (vs. ASHRAE 90.1-2010) targeting an annual energy use intensity below 60 (consuming 59.33 kBtu/sq. ft./year) with more than 40% reduction in water consumption.
