Ocoee Middle School
Ocoee, Florida
As a statewide model for educational facilities design, Ocoee Middle School reflects innovative and economical approaches to the learning environment.
The construction encompassed two classroom buildings, an art complex, a media center, a cafetorium and a music suite, all surrounding a central plaza. The design of the academic areas accommodates the school’s interdisciplinary curriculum through flexible student groupings using technology-based instructional methods.
The design features an innovative audio system to enhance classroom instruction, including microphones and transmitters worn by teachers. The school’s enhanced video systems include LCD projectors in each classroom with six–foot image areas.
“Excellent clustering of classrooms. Use of individual buildings makes for an excellent flow.”–2001 jury
