The Noel P. Brown Sports Center II at Nova Southeastern University School is a shared-use facility serving the University School as well as the university for collegiate sports programs. The University School is an independent college prep for students in junior kindergarten through grade 12. The school provides a personalized education for students of average to gifted abilities. NSU is a private nonprofit university consisting of 18 colleges and schools.
The Noel P. Brown Sports Center II is next to the Aquatics Complex on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus. The LEED Gold-certified addition provides state-of-the-art training and fitness rooms for student-athletes in 15 sports; a gymnasium for basketball, volleyball, and other activities; an activity room for students as young as junior kindergarten; offices for athletic staff; locker rooms for aquatics and visiting athletes; and offices for Special Olympics Broward County.
The design team used cutting-edge technologies and smart practices. The on-campus Central Energy Plant produces chilled water for HVAC systems. LED lighting and specialized control systems reduce energy use and cooling loads. The building was designed to meet South Florida high-velocity wind zone criteria and incorporates impact-resistant and energy-efficient curtain wall glazing. The building reflects the forward thinking of the university and provides the functional necessities for the university’s athletic program.
