Serving as a prominent pedestrian hub for Nova Southeastern University, Mako Hall is a seven-story, residence hall for more than 600 upperclassmen. Niles Bolton Associates provided architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture services to transform the university’s former intramural soccer field into student housing. Offering amenities such as an Innovation Center, a multipurpose room and private and group study rooms on each floor, the facility establishes an ideal setting for student collaboration and social growth.
The contemporary Mediterranean style of architecture incorporates steel and glass elements to create a modern look and feel that is consistent with existing campus facilities. The C-shaped Mako Hall acts as a campus anchor and caps off the pedestrian-centered campus from the vehicular-oriented College Avenue. Two large exterior courtyards surround the development; the passive courtyard provides abundant shade, and the active courtyard encourages social gathering among students with amenities such as hammocks, a fire pit and grilling station.
Mako Hall was delivered in fall 2019 and maintains Nova Southeastern’s Vision 2020 initiative.
