Nova Southeastern University, in partnership with Kids in Distress, set out to facilitate the needs of the community and give students access to a fully functional dental and optometry clinic. This partnership brings together a need and a way to meet that need.

Nova Southeastern’s College of Dental Medicine and College of Optometry have placed clinics under one roof to service the needs of children in their communities.

The project is situated in an existing two-story office building. On the first floor is the building’s main entry lobby and a 12-chair, state-of-the-art dental clinic. The second floor is dedicated to the optometry clinic.

The existing shell remained intact, but the interior was gutted to upgrade the facility’s utility infrastructure. The interior spaces were built to each clinic’s specific needs, incorporating a professional contemporary aesthetic with some hints of the whimsical. Construction of the interior’s partitions minimized noise transmission from space to space through floor-to-floor framing and sound-attenuated insulation.
