Nova Southeastern University, Don Taft University Center – Flight Deck

ACAI was asked to create a new Flight Deck at Nova’s Don Taft University Center as a point of arrival for students and faculty at this South Florida university. The space includes meal service and community areas.
By breaking down the glass barrier separating this rathskeller from the student mall, the new Flight Deck grew in size by adding operable glass walls and, in effect, adding customers and revenue without expanding the actual area of the project. Tucked away from the main “mall” at the center, the new Flight Deck design draws in students as “the place to be” and enhances the openness of the adjoining spaces.
ACAI turned a leftover space into a highly successful destination for Nova’s student body by incorporating amenities such as an open state-of-the-art kitchen; stainless steel and three-dimensional finishes; multiple flat-screen video centers; a contemporary palette of colors; and usable outdoor space that features an outdoor café with shade trellis, patio and bar.
