Riley Library & Learning Commons serves as both a symbol of Northwest Nazarene University’s centennial celebration and a campus gateway. This expansion and renovation refocuses the library’s program by centralizing student services for reference materials, IT support and academic tutoring. The program also includes student-support and socialization areas with a café, a lounge, a quiet reading room and several seminar work spaces.
Marking a shift in architecture for the campus, the project expands and repurposes an existing library building in order to meet future research and study needs on the university level. Exterior brick and stone elements reinforce the materials palette used throughout the rest of the campus.
Open, airy spaces, filled with natural light and views to the campus, add vibrancy to the interior learning environment. Multiuse furniture is incorporated to provide the flexibility needed to serve an array of student study and research needs. Designed in keeping with the university’s master plan, the building serves as a gateway into the campus along a pedestrian spine.
