Northeastern University, Curry Student Dining Center
Boston, Massachusetts
The Curry Student Dining Center, situated at the epicenter of this urban campus, operates as a venue for dining and student activities. Northeastern University sought to revitalize the center to become the social dining hub of campus, accommodating more students and serving as showcase for students, faculty and visitors.
The design renovated the ground- floor dining area with a “hip” urban aesthetic and added a 3,000-square-foot suspended glass mezzanine with 193 seats. The mezzanine, accessed by a glass stair, links dining and student center functions, creating vibrant flow-through circulation and gathering places for commuter and resident students.
“The Northeastern Red” brand identity is artfully integrated, celebrating school spirit and providing a cohesive identity for multiple food vendors. Varying ceiling heights and choice of seating from counters to lounge chairs takes student socializing to a new level, making it “the place to meet on campus.”
Dining revenue is up 20 percent since the re-opening.
