North Olmsted Middle School and High School, Performing Arts Center
North Olmsted, Ohio
The new North Olmsted Performing Arts Center has become a great source of pride for North Olmsted Schools and its surrounding community. Connected to the main academic building of the newly built North Olmsted Middle School & High School, the Performing Arts Center has a separate, dedicated entrance, intended to feel unique as a performance theater for use by not only the school but also the community.
Both the exterior and the interior design reflect late 19th-century Georgian Architecture characterized by its proportion, symmetry and balance. The 850-seat center was designed with an imposing proscenium arch opening, oversized stage and embellished wall coverings. It evokes a feeling of a grandiose professional theater.
Fused into the interiors are a Georgian color palette, patterns and classical elements such as niches, columns, intricate pilasters and cornices, coffered ceilings with glass bell jar lantern light fixtures, and 21st-century design flexibility. Theatrical comedy-tragedy masks are molded into a focal wall medallion and fused into the terrazzo floor motif of the theater lobby as a design highlight.
