North Central College, Boiler House Student Lounge
Naperville, Illinois
North Central College has a large commuter base of students. To serve their needs, the school renovated the existing boilerhouse into a multifunctional, flexible space to enhance the student-life experience.
The building contains many functions and programs, including a commuter lounge, cyber cafe, outdoor terrace, convenience store and a flexible lounge/game room area for performances and parties.
The project renovated an outdated boilerhouse. Diligent study was performed to ensure that the space would be used in the most efficient manner.
This study discovered more usable space by incorporating the attic areas into the design.
Non-compliant code issues were corrected, sprinklers were added, and the building was made ADA-compliant.
