North Andover High School (Work in Progress)
North Andover, Massachusetts
The North Andover High School is faced with a substantial enrollment increase that warrants an expansion of the existing high school. In addition, the existing 1972 open plan building provides an inadequate learning and instructional environment, with ineffective sound attenuation between classrooms. The layout requires students to pass through one classroom to get to another. After extensive study and evaluations, the district decided to build a new high school on the existing site, rather than renovate the building.
The new high school consists of red brick that blends with the traditional look of North Andover. It will be organized into a three-story educational wing and a community wing. The community wing includes an 800-seat auditorium; an athletic facility with four basketball courts, running track, bleacher seating, fitness center and a wrestling/aerobics room; and a cafeteria with a series of eating areas and a variety of food-service selections. The academic and community wings are connected by Main Street, which houses the administrative spaces.
