Mount Saint Mary College, Dominican Center

Constructed in 1927 for the Dominican Sisters Newburg of the congregation of the Most Holy Rosary, the Dominican Center is a Neo-Gothic architectural jewel symbolic of the college’s Catholic and Dominican tradition of academic excellence. Achieving the strategic goals of the college required a complete renovation and reprogramming. The program and design brought the 112,375-square-foot building into the 21st century. It now meets modern academic and technology requirements, and embraces student life and support services.
Offering 24/7 access, the building is technology-rich and embodies a multidimensional living and learning experience. The renovation brings together upperclassman housing, campus dining, a library and learning commons, a tutoring center, a movie theater, a game lounge, a fitness center, computer labs, group study spaces and a chapel. What was once a remote building is now successfully integrated into the Mount Saint Mary campus.
Artful design resulted in a solution that embodies the campus history while offering students, faculty and staff a facility that meets modern higher education standards. The Dominican Center’s prominence echoes its purpose and significance toward a continued and vibrant future for this Mid-Hudson Valley college.
