Mount Pleasant Village Public School, Library and Community Centre
Brampton, Ontario
Mount Pleasant Village Public School, Community Centre and Library is a distinct "community hub" made possible by the unique partnership of the school district, library board and the city’s community-services department.
The school board’s curriculum of "learning beyond the classroom" benefits from the proximity of a public library and community center. Learning occurs beyond classroom walls and into the public library and community center. The school benefits from having direct and immediate access to public library materials, programs and experienced library staff. The shared library computer lab also encourages creative and innovative learning through technology.
The public library provides and maintains the computers and programs, which enables students to have continued access to state-of-the-art technology.
The physical connection to the community center, which is housed in a reconstructed heritage train station, provides the school with access to additional programming space, as well as the ability to combine education-based programs with community-based programs. Students therefore have the advantage of learning from community leaders, as well as school staff.
