Montclair State University, Cafe Diem
Montclair, New Jersey
The cyber cafe at Montclair State University is an addition to the university library. Constructed at the front door of the library and adjacent to a campus quadrangle, the sleekly modern cafe is an immersive interactive space that blends food, socialization and collaborative work areas. Its purpose is to provide supplemental learning environments to the library that are casual and interactive to accommodate a growing demand for places where faculty and students can meet, converse and work together.
A glass wall blurs the distinction between inside and out. The cafe and cafe terrace cascade down broad and generous steps to the campus green. The interior tone is set by the richness of stone and wood flooring, the playfulness of a backlighted LED wall, and the smooth simplicity of a clean ceiling plane.
