Monomoy Regional High School
Harwich, Massachusetts
The creation of a new regional school district provided the opportunity to bring together two neighboring Cape Cod towns – Harwich and Chatham. The new district is known as Monomoy, named for the Native Americans who originally populated the area. The new school provides a cultural and social focal point for 750 students in grades 8 through 12.
The two-story high school has a warm grey brick and cast stone exterior that provides a softness and scale in keeping with the local architecture. The school is designed around a central spine upon which the programmatic areas of the school are arranged.
The academic wing is anchored by science and technology labs and contains classrooms as well as four “team” areas for project-based learning. Centralized teacher planning rooms provide instructors with a collegial environment for cooperative planning and sharing. The athletic wing contains the gymnasium, fitness room and lockers.
The opposing side of the spine contains the administrative wing, a 600-seat performing arts auditorium, a library/media center, art studios and cafeteria.
