The Moanalua High School Performing Arts Center (PAC) is an innovative education design solution for students, a community resource, and a sustainable facility for the Department of Education. AHL provided the architecture and interior design for this facility that supports the high school’s award-winning music and theater programs. The space features a 700-seat auditorium with state-of-the-art audiovisual systems, acoustically designed walls and ceiling clouds, Performance LED lighting, and a 50-foot-wide proscenium opening to accommodate the large Moanalua orchestra. The adjacent Rehearsal Hall, Choral and Dance Studio Building make up the educational component of the PAC, which includes flexibility for other uses. Over 20 years in development, the PAC exemplifies extensive planning and successful collaboration to meet a critical need for the school and the community, yielding a community asset for decades to come. State government funding was distributed over three phases of design and construction. Rental of the PAC for future community use and events will help cover maintenance and operational costs.
