Milwaukee School of Engineering, We Energies STEM Center at MSOE
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
In 2017, the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) made a strategic investment in STEM outreach, establishing a dedicated department to develop, grow and sustain a comprehensive STEM pipeline for students in Milwaukee and beyond. Since then, MSOE STEM has quadrupled the number of learners participating in these programs, reaching nearly 14,000 students from more than 150 K-12 schools.
The We Energies STEM Center at MSOE adds dedicated space, equipment and expanded programming. It was constructed in 10,000 square feet of converted, ground-level campus storefront space. We Energies, Rockwell Automation and American Family Insurance helped pay for the STEM Center, enabling students from any school—public, private, charter or homeschool—to access hands-on, one-of-a-kind STEM experiences.
Diversity and inclusion are an intentional and integrated part of the design, empowering and supporting K-12 students in their exploration of STEM futures in a dedicated safe space. The STEM Center features a large FIRST Robotics competition field, flexible technology studio, design development lab and classroom, tool room and cages, conference space, offices, study areas, a kitchenette, and an outdoor collaboration plaza.
