Situated in the heart of the campus, the Dwight and Dian Diercks Computational Science Hall and the classes taught within have placed the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) at the educational forefront of artificial intelligence, deep learning, cybersecurity, robotics, and cloud computing.
Diercks Hall houses one of the world’s few academic NVIDIA GPU-accelerated supercomputers. ROSIE, as the supercomputer has been named, stands on proud display on the second floor within full-height glass walls that encapsulate the core of the curriculum. Adjacent to ROSIE is a 4,000-square-foot corporate partnership center. A two-story atrium on the main floor serves as a gathering space, study area and event hub. Twelve-foot overhead glass doors connect the hub to an outdoor plaza. Each floor of Diercks Hall has a singular bold accent color to aid in wayfinding and give each floor a unique identity. Cultivated greenery is incorporated throughout and functions as creative space dividers that add a fresh vibrancy and warmth to the space.
The building is designed for both students and the community. It has classrooms equipped with interactive technology, innovative laboratories, student collaboration hubs, pocket study alcoves and the 256-seat NVIDIA auditorium that can accommodate classes, events and presentations for companies that partner with MSOE. Inventive design techniques such as a glass-enclosed staircase that was designed to float on the exterior of the structure provide more functional connectivity and communal space throughout the building. Since opening in 2019, Diercks Hall has become a prominent building in the Milwaukee landscape. It welcomes the community to the MSOE campus with its inviting design and hospitable layout.
