The Cultural Events Center at MidAmerica Nazarene University provides a focal
point within the Olathe community for cultural events, as well as bringing together
the arts embraced on their campus: vocal music, instrumental music and theater.

The center includes a 700-seat auditorium, a 100-seat recital hall and a 200-seat black-box theater. Teaching facilities include practice rooms, classrooms and offices
for teachers. For effective space utilization, the concept includes three performance
spaces that also can be used as practice rooms for vocal and instrumental music.
One challenge of the project included using materials and construction techniques
that accommodate the vastly different acoustics needed for a variety of performances
from choral presentations to jazz bands to theatrical productions.

The architect provided assistance during the fund-raising stage, including presentation
of plans and elevations to the public. The team presented design options,
including different arrangements of multi-use performance spaces, to assist the
university in arriving at a financially feasible, functional and attractive center.
