Mid-South Community College’s Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center is the first LEED project for the campus and has made sustainability a key component of the school’s technology-based curriculum. The building is divided into three distinct zones: classrooms and a conference room on the east side; a diesel shop area in the center; and engine testing labs on the west side. The Renewable Energy Center includes a fully operable bio-fuel production lab, engine testing facility, and fuel and oil analysis laboratories, which support adoption of bio-fuels by the transportation industry. This facility also supports research on the impact of bio-fuels and bio-lubricants on engine performance and durability.

The Marion Berry Renewable Energy Center was designed and constructed to be a high-efficiency, environmentally friendly building, with reduced maintenance and utility costs for the life of the building. The center uses several key technologies to reduce the building carbon footprint and its operating expenses.

The $9 million, 35,120-square-foot structure, named in honor of longtime First District Congressman Marion Berry, boasts technology and equipment that is second to none in Arkansas, west Tennessee, north Mississippi and southeast Missouri.
