Michigan State University, Hubbard Hall Renovation

Hubbard Hall is the tallest housing building on campus and is situated in the East Neighborhood at Michigan State University. The renovation project focused on how to better support student success by delivering academic, health and programmatic services to where the students live. Combine these services with Sparty’s Cafe, a food venue, gaming lounges, quiet study lounges, private meeting rooms, and student living, and it creates the new social hub of campus housing.
The common spaces were designed with multi-function in mind. The Engagement Center houses glass-enclosed study rooms, along with open group tables and a lounging cube for a more intimate gathering space. The use of common ceiling, wall and flooring materials in atypical applications adds an element of "surprise" to the spaces. The color selections infused throughout the spaces encourage students to come out of their standard residence hall rooms, and spark lively connections and interaction among their friends.
Throughout the common space, state-of-the-art technology is installed to provide students with several means of communication and social interaction.
Hubbard is a vibrant example of answering students’ needs to collaborate, connect and be accepted into a larger community.
