Built in 1962, the media center at Mentor High School was due for a facelift to optimize its function for modern uses. The space included repeating rows of bookshelves and computer stations that no longer enhanced the education experience.
Thanks to a grant from Ohio’s Straight-A Fund, established to give educators the opportunity to pursue creative solutions, a two-floor renovation began in August 2014. The goal for the project was to modernize the space and its amenities and provide a more open, high-tech environment for students and teachers.
The design plan has done just that, providing collaboration space for group work and learning, yet offering quieter spaces for individual students. With flexible furniture, whiteboards, treadmill desks, innovative teaching spaces and up-to-date technology, the media center has become a popular destination among students and teachers.
