Meadow Crest Early Learning Center
Renton, Washington
Meadow Crest Early Learning Center aligns school district- and community-based programs under one roof, offering early learning and family engagement programs in an environment tailored to the unique needs of children ages 3-5. Located in an urban, economically challenged neighborhood, this 68,760-square-foot facility supports the full spectrum of developmental needs of up to 450 students and their families, offering Head Start, ECEAP (Early Childhood Education & Assistance Program), extended day, inclusive preschool, an inclusive playground and Child Find.
Programmatic goals included personalization and organization by age group, appropriately scaled learning environments, and fostering student feelings of safety and security. Classrooms and play areas are grouped into small wings supporting creative play, active learning and student safety. Indoor play courts between wings are easily accessible from each classroom and provide a sense of community between adjacent wings through the sharing of play space. Roll-up glass doors in each play court open onto the inclusive playground and gardens adjacent to the school, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor play spaces.
