The MassArt residence hall is situated among the academic and cultural institutions on Huntington Avenue.
The site marks a daily passage for thousands of students. The building is set back from the main street to establish a visual and pedestrian connection across the site. A glass art wall draws attention to this crossing and extends the presence of the residence hall and MassArt along Huntington Avenue.
Art studios are the design features of this nine-story residence hall. While not in the original plan, studios were created by increasing building efficiency. Within suites, single rooms are large enough to include student work space.
The design combines four-room suites with double-height art studios on the top eight floors. The ground floor includes a gallery, cafe, laundry facilities, offices and staff apartments.
