Marvin Laser Recital Hall
Carson, California
California State University, Dominguez Hills, desired to transform an existing outdated auditorium within LaCorte Hall into a modern musical performance space. The client challenged the design team to integrate an additional two functions for optimal flexibility.
The resulting new Marvin Laser Recital Hall elegantly accommodates three acoustically unique programmatic functions for music recitals, film screenings, and lecture. Influenced by various digital and musical sound wavelengths of the three different programs, the concept of “The Pattern of Sound” is expressed through optimized shaping of the venue’s custom acoustic wall panels. This creates an eye-catching and cohesive environment that showcases the integral nature of the space.
A Dolby 7.1 Surround Sound System, recessed projector/screen, motorized acoustical banners recessed in the ceiling, strategically situated touch panels for volume/lighting control, and a dedicated control booth all contribute to creating an enhanced audiovisual-focused environment. A raised stage for improved sightlines with walnut flooring, 137 new upholstered seats, carpet, house and stage lighting, green room and ADA-compliant wheelchair lift and ramp are cost effectively incorporated under budget.
