Mamaroneck High School, Physical Education Facility Improvements
Mamaroneck, New York
The changing paradigm of physical education, which focuses on lifelong fitness, inspired the Mamaroneck Union Free School District to pursue a $9.3 million referendum to repurpose underused spaces and create a multifunctional physical education facility at Mamaroneck High School. The facility supports the new PE curriculum and has improved the health and safety of its students with proper mechanical ventilation and improved daylighting.
The project features a multipurpose physical education classroom equipped with cardiovascular equipment and weight-lifting rigs for strength training. Other spaces include an open studio for yoga, spinning, and TRX suspension; a free movement gymnasium with indoor turf for agility training, and a custom traverse climbing wall. New locker rooms provide separate PE and team locker facilities with ample shower and toilet amenities.
The new spaces provide flexibility and enable students to excel in desired activities and athletic programs. The spaces are adaptable to meet the changing needs of the physical education program and support the district’s interscholastic teams and community.
