Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School

Lyndon B. Johnson Elementary School was designed to serve as a prototype for future elementary school development within the district, and its design was conceived to be adaptable to a variety of potential site conditions.
The school has been designed initially to accommodate 725 students in grades K to 5 with the core facilities and site layout master-planned for 875. The classrooms have been clustered in multiple groups of four, each surrounding a shared, daylight-filled, small-group instructional workroom, restrooms and itinerant staff conferencing area.
Within each of the classrooms, a built-in “teaching wall” has been provided that contains a networked computer connected to a large-screen video display with interactive voice, data and video-transmission capabilities, as well as a computer alcove accommodating eight workstations.
The central courtyard serves as an identifiable gathering place. A communications/clock tower at the center of the courtyard will connect the school to a districtwide information network.
The placement of the administrative, media center and multipurpose building areas near the front of the campus encourages after-hours community use, while maintaining a visual connection with the courtyard during school hours and providing student access to these spaces.
