Lock Haven University, Parsons Union Building
Lock Haven, Pennsylvania
Lock Haven University engaged students in direct interviews, focus groups, and as members of the steering committee to provide critical input for renovating and transforming the Parsons Student Union.
Reorganizng the Union created vibrant gathering spaces for students to socialize, study, meet and play games. The first- and second-floor spaces were reoriented and have updated furniture and finishes throughout the entry, lounge, communicating stair and study spaces. Opening up the lounge and gaming room into one large space enabled individual zones of activity to be created, addressing varying degrees of interaction and levels of sound.
Student feedback suggested that the second-floor computer lab and lounge were primarily used for studying, meetings and intimate social gatherings. A quiet zone was created here for students to meet, study and socialize in groups of two to four. “Glass box” study rooms enable students to have a reservable space for study sessions and small meetings in a more focused environment.
