This project converts an existing senior high school to an elementary school, as part of the district’s new grade alignment to meet growing enrollment needs. In addition to the conversion, the district built a new Gettysburg Area High School to house 1,200 students in grades 9 to 12.
Lincoln Elementary School shares a 57-acre campus with the Gettysburg Area Middle School and Keefauver Elementary School, in a residential area within the borough of Gettysburg, Pa. The design included upgrades to meet accessibility, educational and building-code standards; window closure and replacement for energy conservation; interior alterations and repairs for conversion to elementary program spaces that include music, art, special education, media center, large-group instruction areas, cafeteria, gymnasium and common area in each classroom wing.
Existing district elementary schools will house grades K to 3. Fourth and fifth grades will come together in the Lincoln Elementary School, which features cheerful interior colors. Each team area will have its own color theme. Ceramic tile wainscotting with cobalt blue, teal green, burgundy and cinnamon accents, and murals in corridors will provide an exciting new home for learning at Lincoln Elementary School.
