Liberty High School is a completely new high school campus for the Wentzville R-IV School District. The new facility accommodates administration and counseling suites; faculty offices and work areas; general classrooms; curriculum rooms for math, business, art, science, CADD, special education and family and consumer science; a media center/library; a computer lab; industrial technology lab space; Project Lead the Way (PLTW); drama rehearsal space; and a music department for band and choral programs. Activities spaces include a competition gymnasium, a practice gymnasium, an auditorium, locker rooms, a weight room, a wrestling room, health room, coaches’ offices, and a training room.
General support spaces include food service, a commons/cafeteria, general storage, building services, mechanical and electrical rooms, data rooms, a network room and office, as well as toilet facilities for the entire building. Site amenities include athletic fields (with lighting and irrigation systems), tennis courts, a concession stand, grandstands, a press box, water/fire lines, and full concrete paving and curbs.
Critical challenges for this project included overall building programming for a fully modernized facility, plus extensive site analysis and master site development to provide multiple site access points for entry and exiting of busses, student automobiles, and visitor and staff automobiles.
The prime entrance is near the center of the eastern property line along the main thoroughfare; secondary access points are situated at the northern and southern end of the property. An internal loop circulation drive around the perimeter of the site facilitates internal automobile and bus circulation for both building and athletic field access. A full fire access loop drive around the building perimeter also will facilitate building deliveries and services. Pedestrian circulation will incorporate access from the public walk along the main thoroughfare as well as access to public right-of-way walks along the south and western property lines.
