Recent growth dictated a need for additional space unavailable at the previous location of the Lexington Children’s Place. The new single-story building provides sufficient space for growth as well as expansion opportunities through a simple layout that focuses on student needs with support spaces throughout the facility. The building is nestled on the property and benefits from the natural beauty of the wetlands and vegetation. An expanded playground to the rear of the building provides a secluded yet open space for the students.
The staff-to-student ratio is significantly high, requiring a very large parking lot, so the town is capitalizing on this as an opportunity to provide solar canopies. Between the solar panels on the roof and canopies in the parking lot, the project has an opportunity to be energy-positive. In addition to the solar arrays, the all-electric building will feature storage batteries and porous pavement to make for a more sustainable site.
