Lasell Village is an educational continuous-care retirement community (CCRC) consisting of 162 independent living units in 14 buildings on a 13.2-acre site adjacent to the campus of Lasell College. All buildings are connected by glass-enclosed walkways and bridges. The central Town Hall building, complete with a clock tower that marks the main entrance, contains amenities such as dining, a wellness center, bank office, ballroom, research offices and 44-bed skilled- nursing facility. The 13 residential buildings all contain varied classrooms to support the unique Lifelong Learning Program. As a condition of residence, villagers must participate in 450 hours of continued education per year. Classroom functions include lecture rooms, reading/library rooms, computer room, art studio, gardener’s room, exercise room and indoor pool.
Lasell Village is designed to relate to both the surrounding 19th-century residential neighborhood and the institutional buildings of Lasell College. The design creates indoor and outdoor spaces for interaction, provides natural light to units and public spaces, and uses overscaled materials and details to reduce the perceived size of the buildings.
