Land O’Lakes High School, Academy of Culinary Arts
Land O'Lakes, Florida
The Academy of Culinary Arts is a magnet program within Land O’ Lakes High School. The program’s mission is to provide a broad range of culinary skills for those students desiring to be trained for the local restaurant market and for those who want to pursue a higher level of learning.
The state-of-the-art facility contains three kitchens: a Level I kitchen to teach the basic culinary skills; a Level II kitchen for advanced cooking skills; and a third kitchen to teach pastry/baking skills. The kitchens are set up based on Pro-Start Certification Criteria, an industry certification process.
The building was designed with a 150-seat dining room to provide students real-life experiences in catering and serving. A fourth area of the building contains a cafe run by the district to serve staff at the administration complex. The cafe is designed to become a Level III teaching kitchen in the future.
The facility contains a 60-seat tiered-floor demonstration classroom complete with a full presentation cooking island for demonstrations and teaching opportunities.
