The health technologies program at Lakeland Community College (LCC) is highly regarded in the region. LCC determined that it needed to expand its offerings to better support healthcare providers in the region. This need led to the creation of a new facility that gives the campus a new identity and sense of place.
The Health Technologies Center underwent a renovation of the existing 52,000-square-foot building and constructed an additional 80,000 square feet of space. The relationship between the bars of the new building and the existing building create a three-story skylighted atrium that has become the new heart of the campus.
Further, the massing of the building and connected site work together to create an iconic new image that is visible from the main street.The building is seeking a LEED Gold certification rating and is designed to be “Net-Zero Ready.”
Even though the project has added 80,000 square feet of programmable space, the facility is so energy efficient that the total campus utility consumption is projected to decrease by 0.8%.
