KIPP: Columbus

The new KIPP Central Ohio Charter School was designed in two phases. The first phase calls for a school that serves 1,200 students in grades K to 8. The site was master planned for two additional buildings—an early childhood building and stand-alone high school (serving grades 9 to 12).
Situated on a former golf course, the school has been designed to have a New England barn vernacular; it takes full advantage of the natural surrounding with strong connections to the outdoors. With a U-shaped footprint organized around a courtyard, the building has large glass windows and outdoor learning areas that provide students the opportunity to engage with the outdoor elements. Extended Learning Areas (ELAs) and wide corridors also provide opportunities for cross-teaching and group learning. The school also contains music, art and computer labs as well as a gymnasium and large dining areas.
The overall goal of this project is to make the school a national leader that boasts the best facility and graduates the strongest students academically.
