Kennedy Elementary School, previously a K-6 school, has been converted to a K-4 primary academy. Kennedy K-4 Primary Academy is designed to provide highly capable children in kindergarten to fourth grade with rigorous academic expectations and requirements in all core subjects.
The curriculum is sophisticated and balanced with features such as customized math/science labs, mobile/wireless computer labs, Internet labs, computer clusters in each classroom, and a computerized planetarium. Students work in flexible groups across grade levels, interests and abilities.
The primary focus of the building construction centers on student and instructor needs, and curriculum requirements. Specifically, this project provided:
-Complete rehabilitation of interior finishes including painting and wall coverings, carpeting and ceiling systems.
-Renovation of the administration/lobby area to improve office functions, work stations, accessibility, sightlines and security.
-Renovation of the existing library.
-Addition of two new elevators and renovation of existing toilet rooms to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
-Integration of technology system throughout the building.
