Kenmore West High School, Athletic Complex
Kenmore, New York
Physical-education programs have changed dramatically since 1938, when Kenmore West Senior High School was designed. The original gymnasium had barely enough room along the sidelines for team benches, let alone bleachers for spectators. With the new gymnasium complex, the school can meet today’s needs easily and is prepared to meet the needs of the future. Physical education in schools emphasizes wellness as a way of life and how physical fitness benefits everyone.
This new addition solves many problems associated with the existing gym. The addition provides the appropriate space to promote student safety and reduce the risk of injury. The facility also expands community-use opportunities through continuing-education programs.
The new complex includes an NCAA regulation basketball court; a seating capacity up to 2,000; spectator capacity for up to 1,500 for scholastic sporting events; expanded locker rooms and showers; facilities for coaches, trainers and offices; and equipment storage. It also can be subdivided into three gym stations.
