June W. Davis Elementary School
Fort Worth, Texas
The Crowley Independent School District’s newest elementary school is a reinvention of the district’s prototype elementary building. The new design reflects a strong transformative next-generation learning approach that enhances student engagement and learning success.
The school incorporates a variety of learning space types that foster collaboration, creativity, and flexibility. Small group workspaces incorporated throughout the building are equipped with movable, interchangeable pieces of furniture that encourage planned and unplanned learning engagement to supplement more formal studies. Other common areas are designed to extend the learning experience beyond the classroom walls, including a centralized maker space and learning stair.
Learning tools are playfully incorporated throughout the design, such as imperial and metric rulers inlaid in the corridor flooring, reaching through each classroom wing to serve as a wayfinding device. The outdoor teaching space provides planting beds for demonstration gardening and water reclamation practice. The campus has a geothermal HVAC system and employs numerous LEED and CHPS concepts to achieve an energy-efficient sustainable design solution.
